ChopOnUae: Luxury Pre-order Engine for Watches

Intro

ChopOnUae is a premier luxury watch boutique based in Dubai, UAE, specializing in sourcing high-end, global timepieces on a pre-order basis. The project centered on building a custom-engineered e-commerce solution that handles the complexities of bespoke global sourcing. I transformed a standard WooCommerce setup into a specialized "Pre-order Engine" that manages luxury transactions with precision, catering to high-net-worth clients in the Dubai market.

Client's Goal

The client needed a platform that could handle a unique business model where products are not in stock but sourced globally upon order. Their primary requirements were:

  • Operational Clarity: Communicating the 3-4 week sourcing window clearly to manage customer expectations and reduce inquiries.

  • Trust & Legal Protection: Implementing strict return policies and mandatory customer acknowledgments to protect the brand from high-value refund disputes.

  • High-End Mobile UX: Ensuring a flawless experience on iOS/Safari, as the majority of luxury watch buyers in Dubai shop via iPhone.

  • Dynamic Information: Providing real-time, automated delivery estimates to create a sense of urgency and transparency.

My Contribution

I engineered a series of custom solutions to bridge the gap between luxury retail and technical functionality:

  • Custom Pre-order Logic: I re-programmed the WooCommerce core flow, replacing standard "Buy Now" terminology with a structured "Reservation" system, including mandatory terms-and-conditions checkboxes to secure the brand's legal position.

  • Dynamic Delivery Calculator: I developed a custom PHP script that calculates real-time delivery windows based on the current date (Order Date vs. Arrival Range), displaying personalized timelines for every product.

  • AJAX Mini-Cart Engineering: To elevate the UX, I built an interactive mini-cart with AJAX-powered quantity controls (+/-), allowing for real-time price updates without page reloads—a standard feature in high-end luxury boutiques.

  • iOS/Safari Performance Optimization: I solved critical rendering issues specific to iPhone devices, ensuring the mini-cart and navigation elements maintain perfect visibility and layering (z-index) over high-resolution hero sections.

  • Security & Validation: I implemented strict checkout validation, including mandatory mobile number formats for UAE delivery coordination and a custom-built cart badge counter fix.

Summary of Project's Success

The ChopOnUae platform successfully launched as a robust, specialized luxury engine. By integrating custom coding with strategic UI/UX decisions, I provided the client with more than just a website—I delivered a complete Operations Management System. The store now offers a transparent, credible, and high-performance shopping journey that perfectly aligns with the prestige of world-class horology and the demanding standards of the Dubai luxury market.
